If you’re a vaper, you probably switched to vaping because you were tired of putting countless chemicals, and carcinogens into your body, right? More than likely you don’t want any vape juice that is also loaded with harmful chemicals. I don’t either.
There are many rich and creamy eLiquid flavors to choose from, but the ingredients in some of those delicious juices can be very harmful. Look out for very good, strong vanillas, and custard flavors – we will talk about that in another post. This post is about some of the more buttery flavors.
Diacetyl is a chemical used in many food items to give the food that smooth, creamy, buttery flavor. Diacetyl is used in foods like popcorn and some candies. While it’s FDA approved to eat, it’s not something you want to inhale. In fact, it can cause extreme harm to your lungs when heated.
Here is an excerpt from a site where I found some info on it;
In 2001, eight former popcorn workers suffered severe life-long health issues because of long-term exposure to diacetyl.
According to the CDC, “In May 2000, an occupational medicine physician contacted the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (MoDHSS) to report eight cases of fixed obstructive lung disease in former workers of a microwave popcorn factory. Four of the patients were on lung transplant lists. All eight had a respiratory illness resembling bronchiolitis obliterans with symptoms of cough and dyspnea on exertion, had worked at the same popcorn factory… at some time during 1992–2000…Employment durations ranged from 8 months to 9 years. MoDHSS requested assistance from CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in evaluating factory A for respiratory hazards to workers… The findings of this investigation indicate that workers exposed to flavorings at microwave popcorn factories are at risk for developing fixed obstructive lung disease.”
In 2004, a Missouri man who worked at a popcorn factory successfully sued the factory he worked at for $20 million after a doctor diagnosed him with obliterative bronchiolitis, or “popcorn lung.”
Doctors claim that years of exposure to the chemical diacetyl caused factory worker Eric Peoples to begin experiencing health problems.
U.S. researcher David Michaels, former assistant secretary of energy, stated that heated diacetyl produces a toxic and potentially lethal gas. ”It just devastates their lungs,” Michaels told ABC News.
Symptoms of prolonged diacetyl exposure include dry cough, shortness of breath and wheezing.
To date, $100 million has been paid to factory workers who suffer from “popcorn lung.”
Golden Vapors LLC, does not use flavoring that contains diacetyl. There are companies that claim that their flavors contain trace amounts of diacetyl. We feel there is no safe level of diacetyl, so when we order our flavors, we will only order 100% diacetyl free flavor bases.
Before you purchase eLiquid from a company, ask if their products contain any diacetyl. If they cannot answer that question with a resounding NO, you might want to think twice before ordering from them.
Here at Golden Vapors LLC, we make sure none of our flavors contain diacetyl, and watch for flavor combinations that can create them when blended together. We care about our customers, and the customers of stores we sell eliquid to just as much.
